When I started painting mandalas a few years ago I gifted so many of them. It became a way to show love to my family and friends and I would laugh to myself- if you never got a mandala or at least a handmade greeting card from me- are we even friends?
And I still give a lot of them to my friends and family, though now they became much more complicated and time-consuming to create. For me there’s always something very special in creating an intentional, handmade gift.
So when my friend’s Greta’s birthday was coming up I knew I will create one specifically for her. As a hint for the creative process, she told me her favorite plant is lavender and favorite stone is amethyst and I laughed, saying that I know that purple/violet will be the main color without her saying these hints. It’s just her color, her energy and there’s no doubt about it. She also told me her intention, a very beautiful sentence to be captured.
She is an astrologer- she lives and breathes astrology, it’s her biggest passion and calling and I felt that this will be what’s going to be guiding the creative process- themes of dark, starry night’s sky, shimmering and ever unfolding Universe, strength and lightness, seeing and feeling the magic in the mundane, and allusion to the visual of a natal chart.
